Thank you for taking the time to create the SparkRecipie.com site, make changes to the existing features and really provide a simpler and more effective way for everyone to find what they need.
I know and understand fully that there will be kinks and those will be ironed out..but meantime I am having a blast using it..the rating system is great, and it is really easy for the person like me to find the easy to prepare dishes...
So Dave and company...thanks for the long hours..I do appreciate it!

This new feature is great. I like the idea of rating the recipes so others know how good they are. The only piece I found a bit confusing was how to get back to My Home from SparkRecipes.
I would have like to see the header with the tabs at the top.

| I do like spark peoples new recipe feature but have one question. I had posted a recipe for approval and it was under review. How can I find out if it was approved and if I was given points for it as in spark points it is showing that no points have been awarded for recipes. Thanks for the help. Spark pepole is great :)

Finally! this feature is so easy and quick to use. it was alway a chore to have to sift through all the recipes to find one you were looking for.

Dave thanks for your reply - was sure I was going mad as I thought recipies from favourites would appear in my recipie box - glad to know I'm sane! haha.
Loving the new recipie site - very handy when I'm trying to work out the nutritional information for an item. I just find a recipie with similar ingredients and add that to my tracker instead - close enough is good enough when I don't have time to work out carbs, protein etc properly and put my own recipies in the calculator.

I do have one question... and I'm probably going to smack my head when I get the answer... but...  when I find a recipe... when I click save at the top it says saved to favorites... where are my favorites?? LOL I checked in the recipe box and the recipes aren't saved there... how do I find my wayward recipes?

Since most recipes are submitted by members that will be up to our members like you. We did put a note on the recipe sharing page that people should specify the serving size.

I've just been looking at the new SparkRecipes site. Looks great so far. An excellent idea.
I do have one suggestion though. Some recipes have multiple servings, like soup or chili for example. One recipe I looked at today had 14 servings. If possible, I'd like to see the serving size on the recipe as well. So I know whether it's one cup or 1 1/2 cups of soup for example. Or 1 muffin, 2 cookies, etc.

I really love the new site!!!!! I only have one question..How can you make sure the calorie information is correct? I have printed two recipes and can not figure out how the calories are calculated. I have also reentered the exact ingredients and come up with different numbers. How can we be more accurate? Could it be that the ingredient list is needing to be updated? I guess that was more than one..Thank you

Possibly a stupid question, but can you only edit recipies you add in yourself? If I add someone elses recipie to my recipie box, can I edit that? I often make little substitutions to recipies I find on SP. I'm not 100% sure about this. I have added in a couple of other peoples recipies to my recipie box and I don't see the edit option, so I'm guessing no? (Unless I'm not looking in the right place for the edit button?)
Also, I'm a little confused about my SP recipies from the old site that are saved in my favourites, do I have to save them again in the new recipies thing or should they/will they just transfer over?

Thank you so much for this new website. Not only are the recipes in here easy and quick to prepare, they are also healthy.
Sometimes, I just want an alternate way to prepare a certain food group, which is low cal and doesn't require alot of ingredients. Your site is all that I need to make home cooked meals exciting again. Kudos!

Well, I can say this is a nice site. I have just about stopped using Sparkpeople because it takes soooooooo long to load on dialup. This site loaded a lot faster and was a joy to use. Too bad for me tho about the regular site.

| Thank you Dave! That was unclear. Glad to hear it! One of the areas I'm doing a lot of diet and recipe experimentation is with subsituting low fat yogurt where I would normally use mayo, and I'm really happy with the results so far and love to share. Spark decision makers have done a great job with the new site - its so refreshing and nice to have found a place where the members are not only listened to, but responded to so wonderfully well. Your recipes will appear on the site right away after sharing, they no longer need to be approved since members can now rate and comment on recipes.

| I think the site is beautiful and such an improvement over the old recipe area. I'm wondering though, once you have submitted a recipe for approval, how long does it take for review. Do you still get a message saying it was approved? I'd like to know because a couple of people suggested I submit this last recipe and I'd love to know decisively whether its approved or not. I'm not clear on the new process.

Hi Dave - me again - please feel free to point me to the "instructions" but how do you link a recipe to your food tracker? I just inputed a recipe for Turkey Curry over Brown Rice into my recipe box- took a long time - but now how do I get a serving into my food tracker? Thanks so much.
LATER - found your instructions on the tracker thread. I had tried the "save" button at the top which is supposed to save it to your favorites but I can't see that it did. Then used the button under the nutritional info as you instructed and it worked.

| Thanks for the comments bikini! We hope that by prominently featuring nutrition info and letting people add recipes to their food tracker that members can decide which they want to try. My personal feeling is that if you prepare recipes at home it's a a great thing verses eating out, since you know exactly what's in your food!

wow..pretty bitter. Forgive my 2 cents and dipping here. Spark is a really good site..the main goal is healthy living, and weight loss is a big part of it. The site contains mostly healthy,low-cal, etc recipes, but not everybody eats like that for every meal, every day. Sometimes ya gotta splurge! I have, and I did manage to lose weight by balancing my 'bad' stuff with the 'good'. I would see no problem in having a serving of the mentioned 'Tater Tot Casserole' (or perhaps only half) with a salad (large or small depending) or veggie..and perhaps someone in my household who is not following this would like it! If you don't like the recipe for whatever reason..bypass it.
Spark, and it's members, are promoting a healthier lifestyle..which means learning how to incorporate and manage the 'bad' into your lifestyle.

Great idea for Spark! I have not had a chance to venture thru this but look forward to it! I have a TON of Spark recipes saved in my Favorites, and it will be great to see other people's opinions on them, especially before making them. You've done a really great job..thanks.
Now, a question/request. I already looked at one recipe that had measurements in metric..actually the one ingredient that caught my eye was measured in kg. Is there a way to install a converter (I think Recipezaar has one) that could convert the measurements to suit both US and out of country?

There is a category for Drinks on the Browse recipes page in the Course section. Also, if you check out the Recipe Calculator you'll see all the categories you can choose on the lower right on the calculator.

About those unhealthy recipes...One of the things I like about the recipe calculator is being able to take a family recipe and enter the ingredients and get the nutritional info calculated for you. I have been to more than one family potluck where a dish got rave reviews.When we calculated it, we were stunned at what it cost (calorie wise)I ate my mom's apple cake for years before I figured out it was 400 calories a slice.
I don't plan on giving it up forever, but I now refuse a second slice!

This site never ceases to amaze me. I've read some of the other members troubles with the new recipe section - I did not have any. I added my recipe, shared it, then added it to the day's nutrition. Bing, Bam, Boom. I'm done. I think what really struck me was the choice of 'recipe boxes'. It is identical to the one my mom left me when she passed away. Thanks, SP. I enjoyed that most of all.

BUPS: I agree with you that lots of the recipes are not particularly healthy! However, I modify most of them to my needs...and I also manually enter the foods I eat on a regular basis to my "favorites" section of the food tracker so they're there each day when I need to input them. I also double-check calories and other nutritional information, too.
I take what I need and leave the rest.

The recipe site just launched yesterday, so there are not very many ratings yet. We want people to rate recipes both on healthiness and taste, so the rating should become more useful over the next few weeks as more people rate recipes. I'd encourage you to give lower ratings to recipes that you feel are not healthy.

I am new here and assuming this is a weight-loss / healthy living type site.
So I browsed the recipe section and was very surprised to see recipes such as "Tater tot casserole" - it was made with all full fat ingredients and had 25 grams of fat per serving! And the reviews all said it was great!
Ummm shouldn't we be promoting lower fat/healthier recipes? I
guess I just assumed that all (or at least most) of the recipes I would find here would be good for me.
I can get all kinds of recipes on loads of sites on the net - I thought SP's would be healthy.
Just my 2 cents.

Do you have a 4-cup bowl or pot. If you use this instead of a cup, it will be easier to measure number of servings in a recipe. You might have to measure the last 3 cups with a cup.

Dave, I LOVE the new site! I can't wait to share the website with friends.
I'm having trouble editing my recipe. It was my first attempt (early in SP) and I wasn't sure about the serving size. I meant to enter 1 cup, but it ended up the whole recipe was 1 serving. Needless to say, the nutritional info is a *bit* off balance. LOL!
So, when I go to the recipe, how do I edit it? I don't see an "edit" button.

I love the recipes I have tried so far. I always take the extra over to my mom for her to try. I do have one question though. When I am out of town, where do I look for a restraunt to figue the calories of what I will be eating?

I do have the same concern as TERRIMEIER about getting foods that are mannually inputed from our favorite grouping do we have to reinput nutritional labels again for new recipes?
Will the two sites be joined in the future? Or is there a way to get back to sparkpeople.com without having to retype in address?

I often use user defined foods in my recipes. I see that I still cannot draw from my list of "Favorite" foods when adding ingredients to a recipe. Now that the two sites are completely separated, is there any hope that some day I'll be able to use my self defined foods in the recipe calculator? Or will I always have to re-define them for each recipe?
I am enjoying the new look and feel, and some of the other spiffy new featues.

omg i love the recipes that are on spark people. I mean there not the way that my mom makes em.. but of course they wouldnt be like hers, shes the best ever. But they are really good. I have used like maybe 8 in all but still, i have manyyy more to test!

I figured it out. I have to login in, go to rate receipe, and log in again (pain in the butt) and then it says add to MEAL PLANNER not tracker. FRUSTRATING MORE THAT CARE TO USE WORDS TO DISCRIBE. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO RATE TO ADD TO MY MEAL PLANNER. Boy that was painful and time consuming.
Atleast I figured it out for me don't know if this will help anymore else but I hope so!
Thanks TTFN must make supper or I will have a 5 person riot on my hands! We also have things going on tonight after supper so supper will have to be made so it is quicker to go on to the next item on the adgenda!

I am able to see a button just under the nutritional information (right hand side of page, you may have to scroll down a little bit) that says "Add Recipe to Meal Planner". It looks like that button appears on all the recipes. I hope that helps!

| BLONDEE: With all due respect, Spark is entirely free to all of us. FREE. I know you're frustrated, but still...puleez! I'm sure they're doing the best they can. Sometimes new programs take a while before all the glitches are worked out. So you have to wait a day or two 'til you can use the recipe feature. It's not the end of the world. Me, I'm just grateful Spark is even here for me! And it's FREE.

Every tiem I login it asks me to login when I naviage between my preciepe box and move anywhere else. I rejoined and saved my username and password.
Still doesn't work. I don't think the site is working for me for whaterver reason. I where through all the hooops and still can't get this to work. I don't have an infinate numbe rof hours to get this working. I hvae a life that includes other things than figuring out Sparks. I didn't have a trouble before I wish I could back accessing this trhough the other site.

| You can use your SparkPeople.com username on SparkRecipes. The button does not appear if you are not logged in, so you may need to login again, or make sure cookies are enable on your computer so you stay logged in.

Do you have to join this site in addition to sparkpeople.com? It registers my user name and pass word from the other site. Perhaps this is my problems I really don't know.
There is absolutely no button under the nutrition that says add to tracker not on any of my receipes.

I have a button that says
save, print, email rate.
the receipe is already saved in my receipe box now how do I add it to my tracker. This would be very helpful information. My receipe has not been approved yet, but reguardless I want this added to my favorites.
I certainly cannot seem to figure this out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am spending more time figuring this out than it takes to make the receipe. I am making if for supper so I had better go do that if I want it ready in time.

| Dave, I went to browse recipes, clicked on a category and unlike the SparkPeople page, there are only a few recipes on the page I am viewing. There doesn't seem anyway to search the receipes and, for example, in the snack category there were 632 recipes. Pulling something up in the R's is going to be next to impossible. If I'm doing something wrong, let me know. Thanks.

| You shouldn't need to share a recipe to save it. After saving it, you can click it from your Recipe Box. From there, you can add it to your food tracker if you would like, and can also add it as a Favorite when you save it.

Sorry I found this confusing and frustrating and when I went to save my receipe it would let me save it until I agreed to sahre it.
I spent an hour and I still can't acess my receipe through my favorites so I can add it to my supper as I am making it tonight.
I wrote tech support does anyone have ideas on why this wasn't working for me?

If you see a recipe without a serving size you can leave a commment for the person who submitted the recipe, or give the recipe a low rating if you feel not having a serving size makes it not a useful recipe.

DAVE: First of all, I love Spark!
Now to the important topic at hand: SERVING SIZES!
I am so upset that very few (if any) of the recipes I've seen on Spark have the actual serving size listed. How the heck do I know how much soup is a serving size when I've thrown in all kinds of liquid and meat and veggies, etc.? I stood there the other day after making the Pumpkin Soup with Cauliflower and had to scoop out cup by cup by cup by cup by cup (you get the idea!) of soup just so I knew how much I could eat! I even SparkMailed the lady who submitted the recipe but haven't received a response back yet...
Any way of correcting this? My worst nightmare is seeing a recipe that looks really good and then not bothering to make it since it'll be too difficult to figure out portion sizes.
