Kim (Kdunphy) : Success Story

One day Kim looked in the mirror and started crying because she didn't recognize the person staring back at her. She'd never lost the pregnancy weight she had gained with each of her two kids, and now she didn’t have the energy to keep up with them. Kim would get tired easily and couldn't play as much as they wanted her to. From that day forward, she vowed to become healthier, lose those unwanted pounds, and become a happier and more energetic woman!

Before joining SparkPeople, Kim tried making better food choices and trimming portion sizes. "But it wasn't until I joined SparkPeople that I learned how many calories and nutrients were in certain foods I thought were healthy. I also didn't understand how important exercise was (in combination with a healthy diet), to help me reach my goals," she says. Once she started tracking all of her food, it wasn't surprising why she wasn't losing weight. So she changed her eating habits, started exercising regularly, and threw away all of the excuses she'd made before.
Kim was a constant snacker in the evenings. She'd regularly buy fried chicken and potato wedges at the local convenience store to eat just before bed. She was also "addicted" to soda, drinking a few cans each day. Since changing her habits, she has stopped her late-night food runs and only drinks one or two sodas each month.

Kim used the Nutrition tracker to hold her accountable for everything she was eating. She also read all of the articles she could find in the Resource Center about living a healthier lifestyle. Kim liked using the Recipe Calculator to figure out the nutritional information for the dishes she prepared at home.
Kim joined a SparkTeam of members from her area and appreciated that she could share experiences with others from her town. She also used the Message Boards for help and encouragement.

In addition to losing weight, Kim has lost 14 inches from her waist and hips. She has the energy to keep up with her two active sons, and has used exercise to get her anxiety disorder under control without needing medication. Kim says she's not only changed physically, but spiritually as well. She now has the confidence in herself to know that if she puts her mind to something, she can achieve it.
Kim encourages everyone to set a realistic goal and stick with it. "Some days there will be setbacks, and it's easy to get discouraged. But if you stick with it and use all of the tools provided by SparkPeople, you will succeed," says Kim.
