Dani (Childflowr) : Success Story

Dani didn't feel healthy. She couldn't walk for more than 15 minutes at a time because her knees hurt. She wanted kids, but her doctor said she should get back to a healthy weight before trying to get pregnant. "What wasn't prompting me to change my lifestyle and eating habits?" said Dani.

Dani started by changing her eating habits and using the Nutrition Tracker. She cut cake and candy out of her diet, which was a huge step since she used to have a candy bar daily. She switched to whole grain and whole wheat products, lean proteins, and healthy fats like olive oil. She also cut back on pizza, having it as a special treat (on whole wheat crust), instead of the usual pizza and breadsticks a few times a week. Now she packs big salads for lunch and high protein snacks like low-fat cheese and roasted chickpeas to keep her going throughout the day.
Dani started walking for exercise, which was painful on her knees in the beginning. Eventually she got stronger and improved her fitness level so that she could walk for an hour or more with no pain. She is now training for a three-day walk for breast cancer next summer.

Dani found a buddy on SparkPeople, and says she couldn't have done this without her. Kristi (KKBUG2005) encouraged her and had faith in Dani when she doubted herself. Dani used the Message Boards to communicate with her buddy, interact with other members, and get help from the Resident Experts. She feels the Message Boards kept her accountable and on track.
She also used the Nutrition Tracker and discovered that she was "addicted" to certain foods- like candy bars. It helped her see how many empty calories she could save by cutting back or eliminating them from her diet. Dani used the graphs and charts in her program to monitor how quickly she was progressing toward her goal.

Dani has lost 26 pounds, going from a size 16 to an 8/10. She says she's happier and stronger than she’s been in a long time. She feels in control of her life because she is in control of her body. Losing weight has inspired her to make other positive changes in her life. She's working toward a better job and looking forward to starting a family soon.
