30 Walk-Up Songs from Baseball's Superstars

The walk-up song is a time-honored tradition in Major League Baseball, offering players a brief moment in the big game to express themselves—and oftentimes their culture or state—by way of song. A great walk-up song has the power to get fans up on their feet, maybe intimidate the pitcher and make that long walk from the on-deck circle to the batter's box a walk that inspires confidence and a bit of swagger. While some players opt for viral guilty pleasures, an unexpected slow jam or the not-so-subtly smug, most players pick beats that get their adrenaline going and the crowd jumping, making them perfect for cardio or HIIT workouts.

To celebrate the return of America’s National Past Time, we pulled together a spring soundtrack featuring a walk-up song from one player on each team in Major League Baseball. These are the songs that get baseball’s All-Stars, Golden Glove winners, Rookie of the Year recipients and popular players pumped when they step into the batter’s box, so pop in your headphones and find out if they have the right stuff to get your heart pumping, too.

13 Inspiring Instrumental Workout Songs

Editor's Note (Nicole Nichols): Here at SparkPeople, we know just how powerful music can be as a motivator for your workouts, which is why we try to share new music ideas often. My friend Susie (who is an amazing Spinning instructor) uses a lot of instrumental songs in her classes, and I'm always surprised at how motivating and upbeat they are even though they have little to no words—and are often songs I've never heard before. If you are looking for some new fitness music that will push you, inspire you, and help you focus in your next workout (or race), this list is for you! Here are 15 of her favorite instrumental songs that are great for exercise!

50 Love Songs You'll Love Working Out To

I know many people think of Valentine's Day as a silly non-holiday, something card and marketing companies conjured up so we'll buy more stuff. I don't consider myself a materialistic person, and I really can't explain it, but Valentine's Day has been my favorite holiday since I was a kid. I guess I just always thought it was sweet and fun. My parents always made us their valentines, so it was always special. In fact, now in my 30s, I still get a valentine in the mail from my parents every February 14. To me, a day that celebrates love of all kinds (family love, romantic love, friendship love, etc.) is a happy thing!
For others like me who are feeling the spirit of St. Valentine, I put together a fun workout playlist to inspire your next fitness session. We've collected 50 songs from a variety of genres and eras that celebrate love—and still have a beat that you'll want to exercise to. Whether you listen to them only in February or all year long, these are some love songs that you'll love working out to!

Sweat It Out: 50 Fast & Empowering Break-Up Songs

When you're newly single or going through a tough break-up, it's common to channel that emotional energy into unhealthy habits like drinking, smoking and even overeating. This is especially true around Valentine's Day (and other holidays) when messages and images of happy couples are in your face at every turn (grrr).

But there is a better—and healthier way—to deal. You can use this time to focus on you—your goals, your desires, and your unique life vision. When you need an emotional release, let exercise be your friend (just channel your inner Bridget Jones and hit that Spin bike!). Use it as a focus or a distraction, a natural way to build your endorphins back up.

The following workout songs will help you get in the right spirit for your fitness session and empower you to be your best, happy self! Some are angry, some are celebratory, and some are affirmation that you are stronger than ever—right now.

The 100 Most Motivating Workout Songs of All Time

When it comes to workout music, everyone likes something different. I know people who love to run to instrumental music, seemingly innocent friends who exercise to hardcore gangster rap, and people whose musical tastes in "real" life don't match up with the songs that inspire them to work out.

I like a huge mix. For me, almost anything that's catchy and has a good beat will work. But sometimes, you need something better than that. Sometimes you need the motivation to get off the couch, or go the extra mile, or push through that heavier lift, or muscle through your first marathon. When you really need a boost, what you need is an inspirational work out song.

Our editors and fitness experts compiled a list—130 songs to be exact—of songs that have fast beats worthy of exercising to, but also have motivational messages and lyrics.

The Awards Show Workout Game: Sweat with the Stars!

It seems like almost every time you turn on the TV there is another award show coming. In January alone, there are the Golden Globes, People's Choice, Critic's Choice, Grammy's (this weekend!) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Later in winter, the always-hilarious Golden Raspberry (Razzes) Awards take place around the same time as the more serious Academy Awards. And throughout the year, there's a host of music related award shows (like the Country Music Awards) and even MTV has their own Video Music Awards and Movie Awards shows. I'm sure I haven't even listed them all...
If you love fashion, celebrity news, or simply think of yourself as a music or movie buff, you'll probably catch at least one of these shows. The performances are entertaining, the jokes and hosts often funny, and the fashion is usually worth seeing.
Many people have dress-up parties or get-togethers to watch these shows with friends, often with lots of drinks and appetizers. But you can enjoy the show—and work toward your healthy goals, too—by incorporating SparkPeople's "Award Show Workout Game" at home or with your friends. This workout plan works with any televised award show! It allows you to watch and enjoy the show while also fitting in a serious workout!

The 100 Best Workout Songs of 2013

This is one of my favorite posts to write every year: sharing this epic list of get-your-body-moving workout songs of the year. Unlike all those holiday treats and sweets, this is one thing you can enjoy in December that won't make your pants fit tighter.
All year long, I've been compiling a list of the best workout songs that were released (or popular) within the last 12 months. Here, you'll find all the songs that people like you were dancing, running, cycling and lifting to throughout 2013.

But that's not all: This list is the BEST of the best! I asked members of, America's #1 weight loss and fitness website, to vote on their favorites. Find out which song took the top spot as best workout jam of the year,  whether any of your own favorites made the list, and how you can download a brand new 60-minute cardio workout mix of the top 15 songs (as voted on by exercisers like you)!

15 Halloween Workout Songs to Burn Off Candy Calories

A few years ago, the night I taught Spinning happened to land on Halloween—not once, but two years in a row. I figured that anyone willing to show up on Halloween night to work out is pretty dedicated (or childless?), but either way, I wanted to make the workout festive and fun. I created a healthy Halloween workout mix for the class, dimmed the lights, and handed out my homemade granola bar treats when the ride was over.

It may be silly to some, but creating your own Halloween-themed workout playlist could motivate you to work out on Halloween (a must if you're going to be dipping into the candy jar that day), and it's one of few ways to have fun that doesn't involve eating candy!

So here is my healthy Halloween playlist: 15 spooky songs to help you to burn off those candy calories—and have fun doing it.

This Summer's Hottest Workout Songs

Oooooh boy it is hot out there!  With temps in the mid-90s and humidity levels above 90% as well here in Cincinnati, it's a wonder I'm exercising at all—let alone doing it outside! Yet somehow, I'm not alone. In my neighborhood, the walkers, runners and cyclists aren't missing a beat.

Speaking of beats, updating my workout playlist with some new songs has made a big difference in my summer workout motivation. Even when you're doing the same old routine, a new set of tunes can help break up the monotony. And when you're lacking motivation, those upbeat songs can make all the difference in getting your sneakers on your feet and your feet out the door.

Here are some of the fun tracks that have been motivating my summer (2013) workouts during the dog days of summer.
