A couple of weeks ago, I told you about the new cookbook "You Can Trust a Skinny Cook" by Allison Fishman. She was so excited by your responses that she offered to give away five copies--and share some recipes!

About the book: "Co-host of Lifetime's Cook Yourself Thin Allison Fishman shows you how to eat great—and look even better!

In You Can Trust a Skinny Cook, Allison Fishman teaches you how to stay thin and trim without giving up on the good things in life. She shows you how to take control of your health by taking charge in the kitchen with delicious, healthy meals served in the right portions."

By the way, by "skinny," Allison explained to me that she doesn't mean scrawny or starving. Skinny means fit, healthy, and your "feel good" weight. No "diet" recipes here.

What's not to like?

And check out these recipes:

Pork Chile Verde
Roasted Beet Salad with Goat Cheese and Walnuts
Beet Greens with Pine Nuts

Would enjoy a cook book with healthy recipes. I have become bored of many of the things I cook and some new ideas would be wonderful. So yes I'm entering and may just buy the book if i am not one of the five winners. - 7/11/2011   4:44:14 PM

Well, I bought the book! I'm still hoping to win and give it away to one of my kids. But it looks fantastic as Allison's offerings always are. - 7/9/2011   6:23:01 PM

I picked this up last week, and will definitely enjoy working my way through the recipes - lots of enticing possibilities here. But I have one HUGE gripe.. the type-face. While the 'kitchen tips' for each recipe are in a dark gray type on an off-white background page in a font that is fairly easy to read, the recipe instructions are in a lighter gray and a fairly 'spindly' font that doesn't stand out from the page that well, and the ingredient lists are a light blue/green color.. not great contrast, and not easily seen by those of us with older eyes. NOT ALL READERS ARE UNDER 45!! The prep time and serving info is the same light blue/green color, though here the font used is smaller and lighter still. Now all of this can be solved with good lighting and glasses (or a magnifier as the case may be), but while it may be attractive on the page it's not at all convenient to anyone with older eyes. Poor choice for an otherwise promising cookbook. - 7/9/2011   4:50:40 PM

Oh! I can't wait to try the Pork Chile Verde, because it sounds so good! Since my dh doesn't like pork, I think I'll try to use a beef cut instead of pork. I hope that will work! It's the cost of being married to a Texan! Beef is almost always what's for dinner!

I love the thought of cooking to lose weight! You can tell by how it's written, Allison Fishman loves to cook .... healthy! It would be great to win a free copy of this book! Fingers crossed down here in Florida! - 7/9/2011   12:03:15 PM

Years ago I made a counted cross-stitch for my refrigerator door that said, "Never trust a skinny cook". :) Now I am not trying to be skinny, but just slimmer. I would love to have this book! - 7/9/2011   9:04:45 AM

They sound interesting - but the photo for the Beet salad looks like it has tomatoes in it but not the recipe? The nutrition for the Pork dish seems amazingly low! I will save the salad recipe for when I'm wanting to use the oven. If I had a gas grill - I'd do it sooner. - 7/9/2011   8:21:26 AM

I love cookbooks that give recipe makeovers, not food I wouldn't eat anyway or ingredients that I have to fly to India to get. I hope this one is filled with easy to find ingredients. - 7/8/2011   8:56:30 PM
