Jessica's Small Success of the Week


What's your overall goal? 

It's easy to say a weight goal (ideally about 60 pounds). But really, it's about being a healthier, more active person and a good example for my daughters. I want them to grow up emulating healthy habits and not struggle like I have. 

How is SparkPeople helping you get there? 

I've actually been a member for a while, but hadn't managed to stick to it. I've finally managed to really plug in to the community and the support has been really helpful. I like the logging tools (and it helps I can do it with the mobile app as well). I also find the Spark Points fun and motivating. 

What's your biggest challenge right now? 

Keeping the self-defeating inner voice at bay is a constant challenge for me. It's an absolutist, black/white perfectionist that I have to beat back with a mental carrot stick on a regular basis. It's tripped me up a lot before, so I really need to keep fighting it. 

What advice do you have for someone who just joined Spark today? 

Plug into the community. It's such a supportive group. If you post about a struggle, they're there encouraging you on. If you post about a success, they will cheer you on. It's really helping me this time.

    By tracking what I eat on SP, changing my way of eating to a Paleo approach and using their many exercise videos, I lost 15 lb. and was at the weight I wanted to be. At that point, I had a reaction to too much Vitamin C and lost 7 lb more. I am now trying to regain that weight and have gained about 4 lb. back. It's not that easy to gain weight. I have a few lb more to go. I have not seen anything on SP that deals with gaining weight. - 2/19/2018   4:56:46 PM

    Yay! I have come back from a bad time -- gained back 20 of the 93 lbs I had lost. I am back on track -- SP has definitely helped me. I love the tracking, points, and all the good articles and blogs. There is always someone who has been where I have been. - 2/7/2018   8:49:16 PM

    Staying connected with Spark friends and logging in to Spark Daily helps me stay on track. The motivation and great advice keeps me moving in the right direction. I want it all now.     Spark has given me healthy habits. I've logged in daily since 1/8/2017, except on vacation last year, no internet access. I'm 70 and Spark will be with me daily. Spark helps keep me accountable! - 2/5/2018   8:44:16 AM
