I Ate It: 100-Calorie Yoplait Delights Parfait

Yoplait recently contacted us about a new product they've just launched: the Yoplait Delights Parfait. These parfaits are marketed as a 100-calorie treat that is ideal for the times when your sweet tooth acts up. We asked a reader to try these and tell us what she thought. We also gave them a try!

What they say:

"In a recent study, nearly nine out of 10 women stated they were interested in 100-calorie foods that could help them tame afternoon cravings. Helping to make mid-day snacking satisfying and guilt-free, General Mills introduces new Yoplait Delights, a rich and creamy layered yogurt parfait with 100 calories per serving. Yoplait Delights’ unique flavor combinations include Chocolate Raspberry, Triple Berry Crème, Lemon Torte and Crème Caramel. (NOTE: Get a $1 off coupon at the website!)

New Yoplait Delights have two luscious layers, giving a taste experience unlike any other. Each cup will satisfy cravings with 100 calories per serving and 1.5 g of fat. Yoplait Delights is available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $2.99 for a package of four-4 oz cups."

Also, Yoplait has said: "As of August 2009, General Mills has made the commitment to eliminate milk sourced from cows treated with rBST (recombinant bovine somatotropin), a synthetic hormone also referred to as rBGH, in the production of its category-leading Yoplait yogurts."

What we say:
Editor's note: Some people in the SparkPeople office tried these, too. We really liked the Chocolate Raspberry and the Crème Caramel and thought they made a nice afternoon sweet treat. However, only half of us would eat them again because they contain artificial sweeteners. It's just a matter of personal preference and taste. I've noticed that when we review products that contain ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, or inulin, there's a stark contrast in the opinions of reviewers and readers. People will either really like or dislike the food based on one particular ingredient. Not every food will taste good to every person; we want to make sure that you spend your food dollars on treats you'll really like!

Here's what we thought:
"These are nice and sweet. I was expecting lemon pudding in the first bite, and I was at first confused. But as I took a second bite and expected yogurt, I was pleased. I would eat these again."

"I tried the berry and the caramel flavors. I liked the caramel flavor better, but I think that if I ate the berry flavor again, I would add real berries, too."

"I dipped a graham cracker into the lemon yogurt parfait. Yum! These definitely have artificial sweeteners in them, but I don't mind that."

Here's what our reader reviewer thought:

Name: Suzanne

Hometown: San Jose, Calif.

SparkPeople Username: Catarata17

Product name: Yoplait Delights Parfait. I tried the Chocolate Raspberry, Crème Caramel, and Lemon Torte flavors. There's also a Triple Berry Crème flavor, which I didn't try.

Nutrition info:

Price/availability:
$2.99 for a package of four-4oz cups
available nationwide

What did you like about the product? I like how creamy they are. The Chocolate Raspberry has a fairly subtle chocolate flavor, pretty typical of chocolate yogurt. The Crème Caramel has a good, mild caramel flavor. My favorite was the Lemon Torte though. It's nice and tangy. I really like the two flavors in one. I thought they worked really well together.

What did you dislike about the product? I rarely consume artificial sweeteners, so I'm pretty sensitive to the flavor. I could really taste the sucralose in these. The chemical aftertaste was the least noticeable in the Lemon Torte, probably because it was already slightly tangy.

How did you eat this product? I had the Chocolate Raspberry for an evening snack. I wanted something dessert-like and it didn't really fulfill my craving. I had the Lemon Torte and Crème Caramel for afternoon snacks with a piece of fruit. They were fairly satisfying and kept me full until the next meal.

Thanks for the review. A local grocery had a sale where you got a package free when you purchased 10 yogurts. They were out of the delights. Now I know which one I will chose for my free item! - 9/1/2009   6:31:56 AM

I tend to stay away from 100 calorie snacks now. I used to buy them thinking this time it will be different I will control them. That never is true. I tend to buy more than one flavor or type when I buy them. Then I tend to eat more than one for two reasons. I want to try all the flavors I bought and the serving size is so small that I don't feel satisfied with just one. - 9/1/2009   12:59:30 AM

It has aspartame in it! They have so many different names for this deadly chemical that causes so many illnesses which the FDA & politicians overlook because of the money they receive from the manufactures. It has been proven that this is health hazard in study after study! It's better to use pure sugar if you must have sweetness. Of course the truth is always down played when it means that big business will be lost.
Before I found out the truth, I used it because it's in almost everything low cal and diet! I was getting severe headaches and when I stopped using aspartame the headaches left. It has been linked to mutiple diseases, brain tumors! - 8/31/2009   11:55:02 PM

Ooh, decisions. Chocolate or caramel....? Going to have to try these! - 8/31/2009   10:24:43 PM

Oooh - I wanna try the caramel!! I didn't see that one where I was shopping - only the rasberry & lemon, neither of which I like quite well enough to spend the money. But I'll definately try the caramel, & the taste of artificial sweetners rarely bothers me. Possibly sacharin might be yucky, but I'm ok with most of the others. Sugar tastes TOO sweet to me in most things. - 8/31/2009   8:34:54 PM

I think I'm the odd woman out. My Mom has since changed her diet, and bristles when I mention this, but due to how many foods that were bought with aspartame in it when I was a kid, I love the taste. These have sucralose, which is much sweeter, but I was just wondering if there is anyone else who can tell when something is artificially sweetend and likes it better? - 8/31/2009   1:11:48 PM

It's kind of strange seeing my face on DailySpark.

I just wanted to say that I'm with those who like plain (Greek, in my case) yogurt. I just add some fresh berries and YUM! It's the only type of yogurt I eat. I just don't like the added sugar, artificial flavors, and artificial sweeteners from the preflavored yogurts. - 8/31/2009   12:49:50 PM

I bought these on sale and would occassionally buy them on sale again, but it's not something I'd buy regularly or pay full price for. I tried the chocolate raspberry, and was interested in the caramel, but they were already off the sale price when I went shopping again. I might check them out with the coupon mentioned here. - 8/31/2009   11:23:29 AM

They sound really good and I've looked at them - picked them up, put them down, still not sure whether the sugar content is worth it. Might be okay for an occasional treat, but will definately wait until they are on sale before trying. - 8/31/2009   10:06:11 AM

I would not eat anything with words no one can say in the ingredient list...and pay that much money for it..LOL I can make my own healthy, homeade treats and I know whats in them. - 8/31/2009   9:42:28 AM

I'm to frugal to spend money like that. I buy just plain yogurt. - 8/31/2009   9:29:18 AM

I think you could have one square of dark chocolate and satisfy and it would be just as healthy. Am I wrong. Truly would like to know this? - 8/31/2009   9:21:33 AM

I try not to consume artificial sweetners either, so I wouldn't eat them. Thanks for the information on them! - 8/31/2009   8:52:22 AM

I tried the berry one. I LOVED it, but I also think it should be saved for a dessert. For kicks and giggles I also froze one to see what that would do. I loved it frozen too. Can't wait to try the other flavors. - 8/31/2009   2:11:51 AM

I don't consume artifical sweeteners so thanks for letting me know about that! Saddest day of my life was when I found out Special K cereal had HFCS. - 8/31/2009   12:37:59 AM

Doesn't it defeat the purpose if you have to add something to it to make it "better" or "more enjoyable"?

If you are looking for a 100 calorie treat and you add graham crackers to it, you will obviously go over your 100 calories. - 8/31/2009   12:28:20 AM

I love yogurt, but am trying to wean myself using artificial sweetners very much. I might try it once. Honestly would probably choose single yogurts because of the variety and cheaper cost. - 8/30/2009   10:45:14 PM
  • 88
The problem with most flavored yogurts is that they either contain artificial sweeteners, or they contain LOADS of sugar... and I can't say I really like either option. My kids love yogurt, but we don't buy flavored varieties often b/c I don't want them eating either option very often. I usually choose flavored yogurt only once in a while, and almost always choose a version that isn't too high in calories, and doesn't have artificial sweeteners. Fiber One yogurt used to fulfill those requirements quite nicely, but they've just wrecked it by adding artificial sweeteners in order to bring the calorie count down. So I guess I am saying these kinds of yogurts don't really satisfy my criteria, and that means I probably won't be trying these new flavors either. The best yogurt choice for me now is plain yogurt with a little honey and some fresh fruit. - 8/30/2009   10:19:02 PM

Thanks for the heads up about the artificial sweetener. I lost my weight w/ good old fashioned sugar or honey - in moderation. - 8/30/2009   10:05:45 PM

I tried the Triple Berry and really like it. It filled me up, but I think I need to be in the mood for something sweet. I just wouldn't go grab it for breakfast. - 8/30/2009   9:21:39 PM

I find that a 100 calorie snack doesn't satisfy me and soon I'm looking for something else to eat. Rather than eat the yogurt parfait, I'd just as soon eat a low fat yogurt or another snack with about 200 calories. I usually buy the 8 oz. store brand yogurts for less than $.50, so these parfaits sound pricey to me. - 8/30/2009   9:21:01 PM

I tried these because they were something new and different and I always eat yogurt for breakfast. I had the lemon flavor and it was really delicious! I can usually tell when things have artificial sweetners in them but this really didnt taste like it. It was creamy and thick and just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. Ill definetly buy these again. - 8/30/2009   8:02:55 PM

They look good, but I can tell that only one wouldn't seem like enough to me. I much prefer a big dish of strawberries with fat-free Cool Whip! - 8/30/2009   7:47:38 PM

I have tried the chocolate raspberry and lemon. I loved the lemon. Didn't care for the chocolate raspberry so much. I am also trying to cut out anything artificial or processed so probably won't buy them again. - 8/30/2009   7:21:05 PM

I agree with malweth. I would rather eat sugar free chocolate pudding. It is the same amount of food with less calories and fixes my chocolate craving. - 8/30/2009   6:47:56 PM

I was at the store today and they were on sale for $2.00 and I had a coupon so I bought a pack of the chocolate raspberry. I ate one when I got home and wasn't impressed. I like key lime much better! I won't buy them again. - 8/30/2009   6:29:32 PM

First of all, let me say, I ONLY eat yoplait yogurt because it's the only one I like. That being said...I did not enjoy this particular yogurt LOL. I got the chocolate raspberry and had to give it to my daughter because I just did not like the taste. I will stick to my key lime pie, apple turnover and boston cream pie from now on :) - 8/30/2009   6:18:33 PM

I really enjoyed the carmel and as an added boost crumbled a bit of grahm cracker in with it. I'm glad I gave it a go and will probably buy it again. ;) - 8/30/2009   5:17:29 PM
  • 72
I like the carmel one. I have to say though that when I first tried them I was expecting almost a pudding consistency; but it is more like a thick yogurt. Once I got over that I found I really liked them. They are a really great way to get that sweet treat in without all the guilt. - 8/30/2009   4:30:44 PM

I bought the Creme Caramel to try, I had a coupon for $1 off. I had it for a dessert after dinner, it was okay, don't know if I'd buy again or not. Definately have a more yogurt like taste. - 8/30/2009   4:21:20 PM

Also having a coupon, I picked up a 4 pack of the Choc. Rasp. was OK, but like others, was not nearly as sweet as I had hoped it would be. Plus the texture wasn't what I would call "pudding" like. I'll eat them now that I have them, but won't buy again. - 8/30/2009   4:06:27 PM

I had a coupon and picked up a pack of the caramel flavor last week. I thought they were quite yummy and would definitely buy them again! I don't mind the artificial sweetener on a occasional basis. - 8/30/2009   2:43:42 PM

I love these little delights. I think because they are so sweet. I know, I know, the artificial sweetener is bad but the sweet is so sweet it cuts the cravings for chocolate down tremendously. Also because they are so sweet I take more time to savor. - 8/30/2009   2:42:43 PM
