As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

In a few short days many of us will gather around the table with family and friends to give thanks for the many blessings bestowed on throughout the year. While today's Thanksgiving celebration is centered around mealtime, football games, parades and fun events, stopping to give thanks is still front and foremost for many of us.

Today's blog features quotes from our SparkPeople family to you as to what we are most thankful for. I hope you enjoy reading the quotes. While many of the names will be familiar with our members, we have many people behind the scenes who work diligently every day to give each and every one of you the ability to live the life you are meant to live.

"I'm thankful for having such an amazing team of SparkPeople employees and members working together to reach their goals and then spark the world!"~Chris "SparkGuy" Downie

"I have always been thankful for my parents who taught me about nutrition, gardening and the importance of family meals.   At age 89, their mental and physical health is rapidly declining. However, on any day that I ask them..."Who wants to go for a walk?"  Guess who is always ready to go--no matter what the weather?  It is at a slow pace, about 1/2 mile in 30 minutes.  I have taken this time to gather stories from their childhood and young adult life.  Upon arriving home, I quickly write down my findings to pass onto future generations!"~ Dietitian Becky Hand

"I am thankful for finally getting to try fried turkey this year!"~ Wally Aboulhosn

"I am most thankful for my family - they are a constant source of love and support, and spending time with them is one of the ways I "recharge" when my energy tank is low."~Jeff Rezer

"I'm thankful for my three healthy children and a husband that goes out of his way every day to help me however he can :)" ~ Coach Jen

"This year, I am grateful for my healthy kids, my happy marriage, my parents who are active and healthy and my incredible in laws who are supportive. Grateful both my sisters are pregnant with healthy babies and that my almost 2 year old nephews latest biopsy showed zero rejection from the new heart he received last year!"~ Christine Brown

"This year I am most thankful for my network of friends and family. After losing two close family members and gaining a new set of family members when I married my husband last year, I've realized to never take your loved ones for granted because they are really all you can count on in life. I'm also very thankful that Ginger walked into our lives last year and has brought us so much joy and made running even more fun for me!"~Coach Nicole

"I'm thankful to be surrounded by an amazing family and group of close friends, great co-workers, a job that allows me to help others, and the health of my friends and family." ~Tim Metzner

"I am thankful for so many things, but I am especially thankful for my family and friends this year (and every year)" ~ Coach Denise

"I am thankful and blessed that I am able to work for a company I passionately believe in that helps so many people lead healthier, happier and empowered lives! I love spreading the message of SparkPeople and am thankful every day that I am able to do so." ~ Deirdre Hynes

"I am most thankful for the health and time to be with family and the ability for all to be able and willing to travel to be together." ~ Coach Tanya

"Most thankful for both kids having a great school year!" ~Dave Heilmann

"I am thankful for all those who elect to drop money and never pick it up. I found my first penny on August 24, 2007 during  a run and to date I have found $92.72. I am especially thankful to Chris and all the SparkPeople staff for offering me a job that allows me to be inspired every day by ordinary people achieving extraordinary success!" ~Coach Nancy

"I am thankful not for the life I have, but rather, for the awareness that the life I have is mine to create and improve." ~ John Hulsey

"I'm thankful for health, family and friends."~Alex Louis

"This year, I am particularly thankful for my unwaveringly supportive husband and loving, happy children."~Anne Allen

"I am thankful for the chance to start anew, the ability to move my body freely in this world, and the strength to handle all that this beautiful life brings!"~Stepfanie Romine

"I am always thankful for the good health of my daughters and family. This year, I am most thankful for new beginnings as Tim and I officially begin our lives together as husband and wife." ~Kelly Anderson

"I'm thankful for curiosity. Each day I am excited for the opportunity to give and receive love from all the wonderful people in my life. It's a gift to be curious about what life will bring each day. I am thankful for my health and just how far my legs and heart have carried me on many runs this year." ~Samantha Donohue

"Today I'd like to thank my children for inspiring and challenging me to improve, grow, and hopefully teach them by example." ~Rachel Von Nida

"I am thankful to live in our wonderful country where we have the freedom to raise our kids in an environment where they have many freedoms and benefits of receiving a good education, equal opportunities, and modern medicine.I am especially thankful for my husband, children, parents and all of our family and friends." ~Angie Heilmann

"I am most thankful for family and friends and the continued good health of these people."~Dominic Acito

I am so thankful to be alive and well. My family and friends make my life so worth living and I love that! I love that my daughter and granddaughter will be helping to feed the hungry...the less fortunate before coming to our house to eat. Happy Thanksgiving to all. xo MaryAnn - 11/23/2011   10:09:50 PM

Like many others in the Spark Family, I'm grateful for the support and motivation that's helped me reach my goals. I'm most thankful for the young lady I met within this community and wed this year. She's a wonderful companion that shares all the joy of the outdoors. We cook healthy, we hike often, and she is willing to learn how to kayak. I'm thankful that she cares about living a healthy lifestyle and wants to be alongside me in achieving new goals and maintaining the the ones that we've met. It's been a tremendous year for us both. - 11/23/2011   11:17:53 AM

On this Thanksgiving 2011, as I sit at the myriad of tables we set up at my sisters house, which we have done for the last 5 or 6 years, since our nests have become smaller, I will give thanks for the many people we celebrate the holiday with, my darling husband and my totally cool youngest son (who really really likes being there because the thought of being at home with just the 3 of us depressing, his brothers and family are too far away to come for this short holiday) and my sister (the hostess with the mostest) and her only daughter, her husband is a radiology tech supervisor at our local hospital and doesn't get holidays off, several of us will make a trek later to bring food to him and his co-workers., my sister and her son and daughter who doesn't have a home where she can cook a turkey dinner (her living facilities are meager with only a kitchenette - no oven), another friend, recently divorced with a young son, usually a conephew who doesn't like spending the holidays with his parents who tend to shall we say 'visit with the spirits a touch too much', and whoever else we meet up with in the next 24 hours, I roast a 20lb turkey here at home and bring it over with an appetizer and some desserts and she does a dinner with all the trimmings and this way no matter how many we have show up we have more than enough and still some to bring done to the hospital for the 4 workers that are waiting for for a dinner.

Now let me continue, as I said I am thankful for the people I spend my Thanksgiving day with, I am thankful for my ENTIRE family, I have my parents still alive, both 82, and 11 of 12 siblings here on this earth, spouses, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, numbering 72 in all with 2 on the way (that's all that I know of for now), I am thankful for my darling hubby, I said that, my sons, my beautiful daughter-in-law, and who in her denerosity has let me share in the lives of my first AND second granchildren because she had twins. I was born to be a grandma, I have felt it ever since my sons didn't 'need' me to be there for them all the time (they still need me sometimes though). My d-i-l let me sharee in my grandson & granddaughter's lives since day one! How cool is that! She is an AMAZING Mom my son, amazes me too, but they ask me and my husband to come stay with them when the babies were born for as loong as we could (we ended up staying for 2 months at THEIR request), I am thankful for my d-i-l's generosity for sharing her babies lives with me. While both sets of grandparents are retires and close to the babies, we get to visit and babysit regularloy as possible (considering it is 7 hours away), and they are coming here this Christmas so cool! The babies are just 1 and we skype nearly every week and now they laugh and giggle and wave to me, Nona and I couldn't be more blessed. I am thankful for my family and all I want for Christmas is my family and the fun of watching them open gifts and I will be happy, seriously. I want for nothing, except maybe some help in the kitchen.... - 11/23/2011   8:42:32 AM

In addition to my family and friends and the fact that I still have a job, I am thankful for SP and for the fact that I have been able to lose 35 lbs since last Christmas, and maybe even more that I have been able to stick to a program for so long, and for the first time in my life, I did not give up when it was slow or discouraging. I feel great! - 11/22/2011   8:19:05 PM

    This is so beautiful Nancy!
As someone who is part of the extended family of SparkPeople, I wish to say that I am recently thankful for the sharing and joy that has been brought into my life through doing the SparkLive! classes. I enjoy leading these classes so much, and am blessed to have been asked to be a part of this.

SparkPeople has changed my life in such a great way, and I'm so thankful that I had the courage to sign up so many years ago.

Oh yes I am very thankful everyday that God is in my life and gives the blessings for living; he has given me my beautiful family, my lovely sister, my neices and nephews, my aunts, my cousins, friends, and a beautiful family with Spark People. Once again God has blessed me through 2011 with love for my fellowman, joy in my heart and a desire to continue to serve him and let my light shine for others to see and know that the God I serve is real and the keeper of his children. I am thankful that all I have to do is knock and the door will be open, ask and it shall be given to me and to seek and I will find what God has in store for me. I am thankful that God moved in my heart and blessed me with the spirit of love, caring, sharing, and giving to others. I know that God loves me because he gave his only begotten son for me that I might have a right back to life. I am thankful to God because everyday I rise he has kept his loving arms of protection and kindness around me and given me another day. Thank you God!!! Thank you for all things. - 11/22/2011   6:52:29 PM

I'm thankful for being born an American and having had a wonderful life. I'm thankful I no longer weigh 214# and have my back hurt and my feet swollen. I have Metabolic Syndrome/Insulin Resistance and after reading "WHY WE GET FAT AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT" by Gary Taubes, I know I won't go back there ever again. This coming year I'll get down to my goal, since I know what it takes to get there and stay there. - 11/22/2011   4:45:26 PM

I am thankful for so much. I am thankful that I am able to walk a bit more instead of using my wheelchair allt he time. I am thankful for the people at church who have shown such friendship to our family. I am thankful for the many people in the Team for Disabilities who are one of the most supportive teams ever. I am thankful to Spark for showing me the way forward and for helping me lose the weight I have. However, I think I am most thankful that I can still pay the bills and put food on the table whilst so many are struggling and are going hungry, as this is something I can never forget to be thankful for. - 11/22/2011   1:56:08 PM

Yes, I do find blessings in everyday life. I'm grateful each day I awake, that I have another day. I'm thankful for God's creation, the sunrise and sunset, and the creatures around me. I'm thankful everyday for my health, family, loving husband, shelter, heat/air, clean water, an abundance of food, a job, my fur-babies, freedom, transportation, etc., and I'm thankful each day I log on to Sparkpeople, log my food, water, veggies, exercise minutes, interact with others, read blogs, get support when I need it, learn something new, and have my health a high priority. I'm especially thankful for all of those who make Sparkpeople what it is. I truly am a changed person.

This year I'm thankful for all of the above daily, and for my family, wonderful husband, for health insurance, and for my current ankle surgery. I'm thankful I will be able to do even more, physically, next year. And I'm thankful for my husband whose waiting on me and caring for me. He's very special. I'm thankful for all my successes this year with health and fitness, that I'm living my dreamboard/vision collage, and that I've accomplished many goals. I'm living my balanced, healthy lifestyle, and I love it. Thank you Sparkpeople for all you've changed in my life, all positive.

    It's been a year filled with blessings! - 11/22/2011   1:29:01 PM

I am thankful I lost the weight. Iím thankful my knees don't hurt when I go up and down stairs. I am thankful I can ware heals. I'm thankful I can take a two mile walk and push my daughter the whole way in her stroller. I am thankful that I can deal with depression and anxiety by taking a walk or lifting some weights instead of eating. I'm thankful I've found hobbies other than eating. I'm thankful my family followed my example and started losing weight. I'm thankful that our vacations now involve camping and hiking, instead of paying for a hotel we couldnít afford anyway. I'm thankful that I donít get sick all of the time. I'm thankful that spark has taught me to value myself as a person. - 11/22/2011   12:19:23 PM

I am grateful to have found SparkPeople this year! The past 6 months of my life have been greatly improved because of the Spark!! I am down 13 pounds since I began my adventure and am grateful to feel better than I have in a long time. I no longer dread working out - I look forward to it and am grateful to be a member of my local YMCA!!

I am grateful that my husband works out with me when he can and that our boys enjoy going swimming with us every Friday. They have turned into quite the fish!!

I am grateful to have Sparked family and friends into action as well just by example - and many have signed up for SparkPeople too!!

I am grateful to have finally made myself a priority in my life - because if I don't take care of myself, I might not be here to take care of my loved ones.

    Happy Thanksgiving Spark Family!!!

    In Gratitude & Love,
    Chrissi

I am thankful for my family and friends, for SP and all that it has inspired me/us to do, for our country and its founding fathers. I'm thankful for all who have gone before me and have used their intellect to create a world that was once thought to be fiction. We don't have a perfect world and none of us will agree totally on what a "perfect world" is, but we have the ability to succeed and enjoy.

A toast "to SP, to Friends, to Family, to striving to be the best we can be". - 11/22/2011   10:56:18 AM
