Contest closed! The winner is:

A few months ago, we told you about The Weight of the Nation, a four-part documentary about the US obesity epidemic. The series aired on HBO back in May, and it will hit store shelves as a 3-disc DVD set starting today.

Here is a quick summary of the series, from HBO:

"Three years in the making, The Weight of the Nation brings together the country's leading research institutions in a national initiative to help shed light on solutions to restore our individual and collective health. The centerpiece of The Weight of the Nation is the 4-part documentary series that features case studies and interviews with experts as well as individuals and families struggling with obesity.

Each part focuses on a particular issue: "Consequences" examines the scope of the obesity epidemic and the serious health consequences of being overweight or obese; "Choices" reveals the science behind obesity and weight loss; "Children in Crisis" documents the impact the epidemic is having on the nation's children; and "Challenges" examines the major forces behind the obesity epidemic."

These topics are becoming more and more crucial as our country's health continues to suffer due to complications from eating too much and moving too little. This DVD set is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about the challenges and consequences of obesity in America.  Here's your chance to gain some knowledge--we're giving away The Weight of the Nation DVD set to one lucky winner!

Our Nashville Mayor, Karl Dean, sponsored "Walk 100 Miles" for the citizens to encourage fitness in 2011. Because of this, I participated in most of them, logging in over 200 miles. Because of our Mayor's participation, Nashville was included in this documentary. I don't have HBO and didn't see it when it was aired, but I spoke with HBO prior to their editing - I probably didn't make the cut though! - 8/1/2012   9:45:19 AM

It validated the notion I had that once you had been overweight you forevermore had to eat less (apprx. 20% less) than the same size, age, gender person who was at their healthy weight and had never been overweight. Sigh...knowledge is strength. - 7/31/2012   10:03:12 PM

Some time ago I saw a diagram showing fat distribution in two people (drawing). One was what we normally see when such diagrams showing location of parts... and the other showed how fat affects organs. Viscuous fat. Truly a wake-up call. Wonder whether this dvd shows something of this, too... - 7/31/2012   5:05:16 PM

I watched it on YouTube where it is available as I don't get HBO. But what got me most were the doctors talking about having a FATTY LIVER as many obese people had "normal" blood work, but they were full of fat on the inside, including the liver. Very upsetting to me. - 7/31/2012   2:17:01 PM
