MUFFINSKI

Congratulations!

A few weeks back, COACH_NICOLE blogged about one of our new favorite pieces of equipment here at the SparkPeople offices: the LifeSpan Treadmill Desk. We've been using this fun device to help bust afternoon fatigue and to sneak some extra activity into our days--and have experienced higher energy levels as a result!

Here is what LifeSpan has to say about the desk:

''
The TR1200-DT Treadmill Desk was designed around how you work. It includes a sturdy work surface measuring 46.5" wide and 31" deep to easily support your laptop, printer, computer display and other electronics devices. The treadmill console is conveniently located in the front of the desk so it doesn't take space away from the working surface. For comfort and convenience, the TR1200-DT includes padded arm rests to ensure lasting comfort, and clean cable management with a cable tray tucked under the desk to store your cables. The display panel shows distance travelled, calories burned, time walking on the treadmill desk, and the Intelli-Step™ feature works like a pedometer and counts steps taken while you're working.

Increased risks of heart disease and obesity are just a couple of the health hazards related to a sedentary lifestyle. Lower back and hip pain, poor balance and mobility are also associated with prolonged periods of sitting. The list of ailments caused by too much sitting goes on to include higher risks of diabetes, depression and even cancer. Christine Friedenreich, an epidemiologist at Alberta Health Services/Cancer Care suggests that her research has found that inactivity is linked to an additional 37,000 cases of cancer. The research that has been done in the last few years on the dangers of sitting is nothing short of alarming. Sitting has become the new smoking.

The good news is that the solution is easy and quite natural — just reduce the amount of time spent sitting. Finding additional time in a hectic work day for more exercise can seem impossible, but with the LifeSpan Treadmill Desk taking the place of an office chair, not only can you eliminate the inactivity in your workday but you will find that you will have an increase in energy as well as productivity.''

If you are trying to be less sedentary during the day like we are, a treadmill desk is a great way to get you moving while still being productive at the office. Does the idea of an ''active'' desk sound good to you? You're in luck-- we are giving away a LifeSpan Treadmill Desk to one winner! In case you missed it, here's Coach Nicole's video review of the desk:

At work, instead of paging the person, I walk to their office to speak with them. Of course, I park at the furthest spot from the door and I also make every effort to get up to talk with people through out the day. When I am on the phone, I do tend to fidget so I am sure this helps also!

The treadmill desk would be fantastic for those days at home as well. I tend to spend a lot of time in front of the tv or in front of my computer. This would be a fantastic way to sneak in more activity and help me reach my SparkPeople goals! And an opportunity to rave to my boss about my desk and perhaps help someone else with their goals! - 4/14/2012   5:17:56 PM

I would love to have this! I spend alot of time on the computer! This would be so awesome to own, but simply can't afford it! I use a voice synthesizer program and sometimes pages (esp. SP pages) take a long time to load, so I will do some bicep curls, tricep extensions and other ST while waiting. Today I've been doing push-ups! I set an alarm to go off every hour so I can get up and take a 5 min. walk around the hous! If not, I'd sit here working or Sparking all day! Keeping my fingers crossed! - 4/14/2012   2:59:31 PM

I would love this! As a CNA I am on my feet for almost all of an 8 hr shift, but even with my normal workouts I like to walk/jog in place while watching tv to get in some extra exercise. Some days it seems like the only time I am laying down is when I'm asleep! - 4/13/2012   9:32:50 PM

I keep telling my husband I'm going to remove the lounger in the living room and replace it with a treadmill...this would be awesome for meal planning...

How do I get in a little extra movement during my workday at the office, well I make an excuse at 3x a day to walk around the entire building...deliverying mail or messages! :) - 4/13/2012   8:46:54 PM

Oh the damage I could do with this treadmill. All the SparkPoints I could accumulate!!! All the articles I could read. The possibilities are endless!!! I don't know if I'd ever get off. - 4/13/2012   8:20:48 PM

Oh yes...I need one of these...even located the local store that carries them and tried one on for size. I love the idea, and since I work from home, it would be a convenient way to continue to get additional activity in my day without having to be away from the "office." Currently, I walk around the neighborhood after work to check mail and the like...but living in Texas, soon it will be too hot (I don't do well in the heat...I know, I should move!), so I will have to get movement elsewhere! - 4/13/2012   8:09:10 PM

Every day at some point while on SparkPeople, I think "I should be MOVING instead of sitting here!" The LifeSpan Treadmill Desk would be well-used by me not just for doing paperwork or reading while walking on the treadmill and using the desktop, but also while adding guilt-freedom to the time I spend online using SparkPeople! As a team leader that time does add up, so I'd be walking a MINIMUM of one hour extra every single day! Ahhhh yes....! Winning this treadmill desk would be a dream come true for me! And what a wonderful prize this is for whomever should win it! Because no matter what the person does in life, this desk will be an asset! - 4/13/2012   7:43:17 PM
