Contest closed! The winner is:

A few weeks back, COACH_NICOLE blogged about one of our new favorite pieces of equipment here at the SparkPeople offices: the LifeSpan Treadmill Desk. We've been using this fun device to help bust afternoon fatigue and to sneak some extra activity into our days--and have experienced higher energy levels as a result!

Here is what LifeSpan has to say about the desk:

The TR1200-DT Treadmill Desk was designed around how you work. It includes a sturdy work surface measuring 46.5" wide and 31" deep to easily support your laptop, printer, computer display and other electronics devices. The treadmill console is conveniently located in the front of the desk so it doesn't take space away from the working surface. For comfort and convenience, the TR1200-DT includes padded arm rests to ensure lasting comfort, and clean cable management with a cable tray tucked under the desk to store your cables. The display panel shows distance travelled, calories burned, time walking on the treadmill desk, and the Intelli-Step™ feature works like a pedometer and counts steps taken while you're working.

Increased risks of heart disease and obesity are just a couple of the health hazards related to a sedentary lifestyle. Lower back and hip pain, poor balance and mobility are also associated with prolonged periods of sitting. The list of ailments caused by too much sitting goes on to include higher risks of diabetes, depression and even cancer. Christine Friedenreich, an epidemiologist at Alberta Health Services/Cancer Care suggests that her research has found that inactivity is linked to an additional 37,000 cases of cancer. The research that has been done in the last few years on the dangers of sitting is nothing short of alarming. Sitting has become the new smoking.

The good news is that the solution is easy and quite natural — just reduce the amount of time spent sitting. Finding additional time in a hectic work day for more exercise can seem impossible, but with the LifeSpan Treadmill Desk taking the place of an office chair, not only can you eliminate the inactivity in your workday but you will find that you will have an increase in energy as well as productivity.''

If you are trying to be less sedentary during the day like we are, a treadmill desk is a great way to get you moving while still being productive at the office. Does the idea of an ''active'' desk sound good to you? You're in luck-- we are giving away a LifeSpan Treadmill Desk to one winner! In case you missed it, here's Coach Nicole's video review of the desk:

How do you sneak in extra activity during the day?

This is a great idea! It doesn't have to be used just for work. I'd put my playlists on and listen to music, or workout while attending one of my classes (online student) I'd even scroll sparkpeople and look for a new recipe to try! - 4/18/2012   10:50:39 AM
ummmm... I also think it's sorta dumb... you CAN't type and read very well while walking like that! You'd not get your work done well like that! I say- get your work done, turn everything off and get OUTSIDE and walk/run. Folks, I live in MN and even at well below freezing, I get out and walk my four miles. It is possible! - 4/18/2012   10:48:08 AM
I have a Pinterest board for treadmill desks! I work at home as a medical transcriptionist and am up and down from my computer ALL DAY! This would be a tremendous help in meeting fitness goals! - 4/17/2012   6:37:45 PM

This would be awesome...I could walk away the calories while doing my homework,or surfing around on sparkpeople reading my articles and blogs, and not be sitting down doing it. Exercise sometimes takes the back burner when I have to decide if I'm going to finish my homework or exercise...I would be able to do both...Good luck everyone... - 4/17/2012   12:41:48 PM
I switched to this treadmill desk about 2 weeks ago and I'll never go back to a regular desk again. I can't believe how much more energy I have and how productive my day has gotten. Thanks LifeSpan! I'll recommend this product to everyone. - 4/16/2012   11:13:11 PM
It's a little late April fool joke item, right? Very funny...

Or one of the stupidest machine I've ever seen for the very long time. - 4/16/2012   10:17:02 PM
I found the "click on to enter" at the end of the article. I have my answer...
Best wishes to all! - 4/16/2012   3:27:20 PM
It would be nice to win this ---but how does one register to win? What are the rules of eligibility? - 4/16/2012   3:23:40 PM

I already have one of these in my daytime office and after using it for the last month I must say that I feel more energized and look forward to the activity everyday. If you are not lucky enough to win, I suggest you don't let that stop you from considering this affordable self-purchase. - 4/16/2012   1:19:15 PM
This is an amazing give away! Sure hope I win! :-) - 4/16/2012   11:37:39 AM

That's so awesome! I have been trying to figure out how I could make something stable for my netbook at the gazelle, since I only use it for moving (walking). - 4/15/2012   6:21:19 PM
  • 66
I wouldn't have to feel bad about spending so much time on the computer (especially with SarkPeople) because I could get my walking in at the same time! - 4/15/2012   4:29:23 PM

sorry but I would never use it ... I have a treadmill, an eliptical and an stationary bike. and I don't use them either. What a waste of me. I should use them. Hey? - 4/15/2012   4:01:42 PM
  • JPEARL127
I can't imagine employers doing this, but I admit that it would be even better than an on-site gym because people wouldn't be staying later or arriving earlier to get their daily exercise! - 4/15/2012   12:45:55 PM

Great idea for a treadmill .... to have a desk built in. - 4/15/2012   10:22:55 AM

They are piloting these treadmills where I work. I'm hoping they get a few for each department. I'm lucky to work from home two days a week so this would be perfect! - 4/15/2012   10:02:48 AM
This would be amazing- esp. since hubs retirement, he went from walking about 10 miles a night to walking the dogs a couple of times a day- rest is spent sitting on his butt. Girls and I could certainly benefit, but definitely Ken would get a huge benefit. - 4/15/2012   9:21:41 AM

This I really need. I had gastric bypass surgery 2 years ago, because the doctors told me,with my weight & all my health problems, I probably only would "maybe" live 5 more years. I got to thinking, a serious surgery that could take my life, yes. I had 3 grandchildren that I had to live to watch grow up,graduate high school & have their families. I took my changes. Had lots of complications, but lived through the complications, lost 100lbs.Congratulations to me,right. I have wanted a treadmill so....BAD!!! But, needless to say,I lost my job right after surgery & have not been able to afford one. I have looked & dreamed of getting one of these to help, since I am unable to walk outside in the summer time due to having asthma & COPD. If I had a treadmill, I could use it indoors, anytime. That would be GREAT!!!! I will keep my fingers cross that I WIN this.YES!!!

This would help me so much. I just don't get enough exercise. I spend the day taking care of a cancer patient so exercise time just isn't there for me. - 4/14/2012   10:02:13 PM
I would love to win this! - 4/14/2012   9:57:59 PM
My husband works from home, and we've been talking about getting a treadmill desk. This would be awesome to win!! - 4/14/2012   9:56:49 PM

This would be a great asset while working. I have a desk job and do not move nearly enough, even though I do try to do part of my job while standing. Talk about multi-tasking! I certainly wouldn't turn it down if you selected my name :) - 4/14/2012   9:48:04 PM

What an absolutely wonderful idea. My husband is about to have neurosurgery and won't be able to use his eliptical for quite some time, but a treadmill he can and still work at the same time - awesome. A win-win situation. Oh how we would love to have this for him to keep moving... pick us please :))) - 4/14/2012   9:17:09 PM

I try to sneak in some squads and wall push-ups every time I take a bathroom break at work. I also try to sneak in some walking in place aiming for my 10,000 daily steps. - 4/14/2012   9:04:56 PM

I'm a writer who spends a LOT of time sitting at my desk, both writing and researching. I have a balance ball chair to help with those long hours spent at my desk, but this would be a hundred times better! - 4/14/2012   8:53:26 PM
Oh My Goodness -- this is a genius idea! I could be so much more productive with this treadmill in my life. And the health benefits, well that's the best part! All the computer work I do would have fringe benefits. Praying this treadmill finds a new home here! - 4/14/2012   8:46:56 PM
I work from home so it would be perfect! :) - 4/14/2012   8:41:02 PM

At work I get up every 20 minutes or so and continue working standing for a while, and take frequent walking breaks to the rest room, etc. I still get my work done, but stay mobile. - 4/14/2012   8:36:21 PM
