Just a quick FYI: like tortillas, pita & flatbread (including Subway's) is NOT necessarily less calorie-laden than yeast bread. Read your nutrition facts with care!

That said, some of these wraps sound absolutely delicious! - 1/10/2012   12:01:12 PM

Good fat and fiber counts, but the sodium count is sure not healthy. Most are over 1,000 mg.! When are restaurants going to wake up to this one? - 1/10/2012   11:41:04 AM

While Extreme Pita is good, it is expensive.
    I prefer Subway. - 1/10/2012   11:23:39 AM

Extreme Pita sounds delicious! I had to laugh at their commercials, though. Too funny! Especially the second one. FYI, Subway has flatbread, so I'll often order that instead of a bulky sub roll. More often than not, I'll choose to eat at D'Angelo, which is a sub shop we have here in the Northeast. They offer pitas and wraps, as well as sub rolls. I usually order my sandwich in a wrap. Less bread! More veggies! - 1/10/2012   11:08:51 AM

I prefer Pita Pit, that one has been around since at least 2001, possibly earlier, not sure when Extreme Pita came to Winnipeg. Been in St. John's, Newfoundland since 1997 apparently from what I was told by a Newfoundler when I visited the store there.

Both have good options. I like the idea that my pita at pita pit has chicken and is about 550 calories versus about the same amount of calories for the veggie delite at Subway. - 1/10/2012   8:08:57 AM

We had one for about a year and it left... maybe it was mismangement, maybe it was that I was the only person I knew who liked the place. - 1/10/2012   6:08:15 AM

I haven't seen one around here in the North OC area of CA. Sounds pretty good but I thought one of the sandwich places was doing pita's also. Anyway would love to try one. - 1/9/2012   9:38:32 PM

Love Extreme Pita! The small veggie pita kept me alive when I was a poor university student! - 1/9/2012   8:48:47 PM

We don't have that company here in New Zealand, but we do have Pita Pit (as of quite recently), which I think is in North America too. I really love their pitas - there are many healthy options (and good options for vegetarians) with plenty of vegetables. I really like that they have an online calculator where you can pick your options and get the exact nutrition information for your choice of salads, sauces, etc. - 1/9/2012   5:09:58 PM

It is a shame that restaurants that try to lighten up their menus fail to lighten up on the sodium as well. I guess the sodium content is probably about on par with any other restaurant foods you would eat, so these pita sandwiches would be a better choice re: calories, fat, etc. However, those of us who are trying to cut down on sodium will still need to pack our own lunches! - 1/9/2012   4:23:12 PM

I agree with Julia1154. The sodium count for these "better choices" would make just about all these selections off limits for me. I will not be searching for this franchise! - 1/9/2012   3:58:37 PM

I haven't seen this chain, much less eaten there but with sodium counts as listed above I don't consider this particularly healthful food and would not be likely to purchase it.

I'd strongly urge them to attempt to get the sodium down! - 1/9/2012   3:42:45 PM

I love the menu! I looked at the locations and there are a couple in San Diego. The next time I head south I'll have to try a pita. Thanks for the introduction! - 1/9/2012   3:42:18 PM

there's one across the street from me, and my husband eats there. Your article doesn't mention that you can and should get whole wheat pitas and you can definitely ask for heavy on the veggies. - 1/9/2012   3:42:07 PM
