This French-cottage themed restaurant first opened in 1978 as a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a freshly prepared meal. The Simms family started the Café in Anaheim, California and introduced a new combination of ambience and service with convenience and value.

Today you can find Mimi's Cafés operating in 22 states across the U.S. and you will still find warm hospitality and delicious fresh cooked meals. My family recently enjoyed a wonderful lunch at a Mimi's in our community and their menu really caught my eye. I thought it would be helpful to review the healthier menu items as part of our ongoing Diet Friendly Dining series.

The varied Fit and Fresh menu can allow you enjoy an evening away from home while also keeping a meal intake under 500 calories and 15-20 grams of fat or less.

Mimi's Fresh and Fit menu provides some of the best nutrient rich and calorie, fat and sodium conscious menu choices I have seen. This restaurant allows you to select a nutrient wise option while friends and family can select from other less nutrition conscious but equally delicious options. This restaurant tops my list of places you definitely want to check out.

Have you eaten at Mimi's Café? Where you aware of the Fresh and Fit menu items? What do you think of the menu items?

We got a Mimi's here a couple years ago and we were really excited to try it out. Unfortunately had one of the worst meals I've ever eaten at a restaurant and have never gone back. Sounds like the one here might be the exception though since I'm seeing so many raves! - 12/13/2011   9:51:43 PM

wow! i had no idea how nutrition friendly this place was. I thought it would be just another Coco's or Marie Calendar's w/ high fat/high cal/high sodium foods. - 3/3/2010   11:51:14 PM

Love Mimi's Cafe! It can be a tricky place to eat though, you have to steer away from so many yummy items that are not healthy. The items on their healthy menu are very good though. I make sure to check out their menu on line first so I have my healthy choice made and am not tempted to stray once I get there. - 2/21/2010   1:15:56 PM

This past week I passed Mimi's Cafe twice - in Lakeland, FL - and didn't know it was a healthy place to eat. No wonder the parking lot was full! Next time I am over that way I will make a point of eating there. - 2/17/2010   8:47:29 PM

We have one in Columbia Maryland. I love the buttermilk spice muffin. But just about fell over when I found out how many calories it had. When I do get one I take it home and have half at a time. Like the fit menu its awesome. - 2/10/2010   8:34:47 AM

Went to one in TN with my mother this past weekend. They had several vegetarian options and I got the veggie burger there (part of the Just Enough menu). It was amazing and came with a big fruit salad (grapes, strawberries, and a huge chunk of fresh pineapple). My mom got the salmon and loved it (the new potato side was amazing). The bread basket was our downfall (fresh roll, banana bread and carrot bead). - 2/9/2010   1:23:16 PM

I love Mimi's too! I didn't realize they had healthy options; I will definitely have to look for those the next time I'm there. If you go with one of the coupons in the paper, you can really get a good deal! - 2/7/2010   4:03:25 PM

I have a Mimi's about 2 minutes away from my house in FTMY...those options are very nice! Unfortunately I also love their zuchinni appetizer and the buttermilk spice muffins!!! No, I won't think about those! I rarely go, but they have wonderful and tasty healthy options! - 2/7/2010   2:14:19 PM

Mimi's Cafe is one of my favorite places. Last week I stopped and ordered the 'Just Enough Petite Citrus Salmon' w/hot tea. I think they are doing a great job of offering items that are calorically-reasonable. It definately works for me and gives me options besides Applebee's when I want to treat myself a bit.

My all time favorite place to eat out. I always feel like I am having something yummy and consider eating here a treat. Love all their lunch and dinner entrees with the exception of the turkey sandwich. When they say it's served dry, it's DRY. Not sure what they could do so the bread wasn't so hard to get through. It falls apart, leaving an open sandwich in the end. Otherwise, yum! - 2/7/2010   10:00:00 AM

I love Mimi's cafe. Lots of choices. It's good to have the fitter menu options. Can't say I always order them, however. But I do try to bring home part of my meal if it's not on the fit side. - 2/6/2010   11:34:33 PM

I like Mimi's -- and so do lots of other people in the area, so it's always crowded, so we don't go there as often as in the past. At the time, the healthier menus were separate, and sometimes when I asked for them, the servers had no idea what I was talking about. But I've had good success in putting healthy meals together there -- but watch out for the bread basket with the carrot bread! - 2/6/2010   12:40:43 PM

I Love going to Mimi's. How funny because I'm going there tonight to celebrate my birthday. I signed up for their birthday club and I get a $10 off coupon. I'll be looking for these items on the menu. - 2/6/2010   2:25:54 AM

There is a Mimi's that I pass occasionally while running errands, and I've been thinking I should look online to see if they had any healthy menu options, and give it a try. Thanks for saving me the effort. I definitely want to go there now! - 2/5/2010   10:04:09 PM

We love Mimi's for a treat. There is waaaay too many temptations there to go often. I stick to the oatmeal & sliced tomatoes - crazy combo - but the 2 best things I can find on their menu. We've actually changed our Sunday stop to Corner Bakery where there are many more healthier options to choose from. - 2/5/2010   9:58:05 PM

Thanks for all the information and options available at Mimis. There's one about 6 miles from me. It may be a good idea to check it out again after many years of not returning to it. - 2/5/2010   8:27:14 PM

Order me a Just enough citrus Salmon and the petit Chocolate Mousse.

thanks for the article! There's a Mimi's close by but I've been avoiding restaurants for fear of finding nothing I can eat. But I miss the fun of going out. I think I'll suggest Mimi's for a dinner out this weekend. - 2/5/2010   5:01:41 PM

There is one in Glen Allen, VA. I have eaten breakfast there several times. The fitness omelette is pretty tasty. I enjoy eating at restaurants that offer an extensive healthy eating menu. Kudos to Mimi's cafe for this. I wish there could be a restaurant chain across America that has nothing but healthy options. If there is one, then I am sorry for overlooking them. - 2/5/2010   4:46:31 PM

I enjoy Mimi's. We have one in Dayton,Oh that I visit every couple of months. I frequently get the Just Enough meals and it is just enough for a good meal w/o overdoing it. I stay away from the muffins. - 2/5/2010   3:12:27 PM

It would be nice to have a place like this by me. Most of the food at the restaurants by me seem to be way to greasy. - 2/5/2010   2:37:04 PM

We used to live several blocks away from one. Now it's a little farther away so we don't go as often now. It is still one of my mom's favorites though. So we go for celebrations sometimes. Love the new fit and fresh menu. It really helps me stay in control, although I also miss the leftovers. - 2/5/2010   2:36:45 PM

I grew up very near to the original Mimi's in Anaheim. It was great the last time I was there more than 20 years ago. I wonder, though, if the quality of the food is the same now that they are owned by the Bob Evans group. Hmmm??? I am glad to see that they now offer healthier choices, too bad there are none in New England yet. - 2/5/2010   1:59:44 PM

Just moved to a city with a Mimi's, never been there before. Unfortunately, everytime we have driven past it, it is completely jammed so I doubt we will ever go there. We refuse to wait in line to eat at dumb chain restaurants. Something about it is disgusting to us. - 2/5/2010   12:34:37 PM

I love Mimi's! We haven't been there for a long time - my husband doesn't like it. I didn't know about these changes. I will definitely check it out! - 2/5/2010   12:32:38 PM

I LOVE Mimi's....Have been going for years and was thrilled with their new healthy and diet friendly selections. My biggest temptation is the "muffin", but if one comes with the meal, I take it home, cut it up into four parts and freeze for "that special treat"! - 2/5/2010   10:56:24 AM

We don't have Mimi's around here but it sounds like they are making an effort. My question is how do you make a 506 calorie egg white omelet? - 2/5/2010   10:24:01 AM

There is a Mimi's in Mesa. I believe it's near the Fiesta Mall. 1250 S. Alma School Rd. Actually, looking in the phone book, there are Mimi's all over out here, Ray Rd. in Mesa, Phoenix, Chandler, Scottsdale and Glendale. I have eaten at the one on Alma School and it is a very nice resturant. Altho, when I was there last, it didn't have a real healthy menu. Glad that's changed. The options here don't really fit my program, tho, but I'd go back and check it out for myself. - 2/5/2010   9:00:11 AM
