10 Workout Songs to Get Your Body Moving

It's the third full week in January. Is your motivation to exercise still going strong? If you feel yourself starting to slip, maybe it's time to refresh your workouts—or your approach to them. One of my favorite things to do when I'm feeling blah about being active is to update my iPod with some fresh new songs. It makes "just another run" seem new and interesting, and when I find the right songs, I couldn't even sit still while listening to them if I tried!

So here are 10 workout songs that I am completely obsessed with lately. When I hear these, it's get-up-and-go-time! Hopefully you'll find a few new favorites from this list, too.

(Click on the song title to hear a preview and/or to purchase the mp3 from amazon.com.)

Pink – Raise Your Glass

Bodyrockers – I Like The Way

Neon Trees – Animal

Vampire Weekend – A-Punk

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll

Michael Jackson – P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)

Chromeo – Bonafied Lovin

Nina Simone – Sinnerman (Felix Da Housecat's Heavenly House Mix)

Girl Talk – In Step

Michael Mind – Ride Like The Wind (Klaas Remix)

Be sure to follow me on Facebook and/or Twitter, where I post a new workout song every day!

Thanks for keeping us upbeat, Coach Nicole! I enjoy your playlists! And I love Pink.
For those who did have something mean spirited to say, I have several all Christian/Gospel playlists I put in regularly. Make your own, don't complain!!!
I also found Pandora.com thanks to another Sparker, which has really expanded my available music. I'm enjoying the Ambient Music station especially (what you might hear when you go to a spa and get a glorious massage). Try it!!! - 1/20/2011   1:28:29 AM

This is just what I needed... I want to apologize on behalf of some of my fellow sparkers who found the need to bring their negativity to the comment thread. I went through and picked out three of the songs that I liked, the others werent for me, but im positive that there wasnt a line in the blog that said that we HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THESE.... they were suggestions... open your mind and you will benefit greatly from it.

Thanks again Coach Nicole... always looking out for us!

I'm just going by memory, (and I'm kinda weird) but here's some of my workout songs:

    Dragula - Rob Zombie
Gonna Make You Sweat - C&C Music Factory
    Temperature - Sean Paul
Highway to the Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins
    Ridin' Dirty - Chameleon
    Survivor - Destiny's Child
    Independent Woman - Destiny's Child
Groove is in the Heart - Dee Light
Good Vibrations - Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
A Little Less Conversation - Elvis Presley (Remix by Jxl)

A little eclectic. I know there's more, but sometimes there's just SOMETHING about a song that makes you hop up and dance. :-) It is TOTALLY different for everyone too...the same song for me will NOT be the same for another!! :-) It's fun to see what people think are good songs to move to!! :-)

I liked this blog and reading others suggestions for music was also helpful, except the negative comments. I reread the blog to make sure I understood the point Coach Nicole was trying to make. Paraphrasing here: She asked if your motivation to working out was waning. If it was, something that helps her is to look for new music for her Ipod. And here is a list of some of the current songs SHE likes. She isn't saying that everyone needs to like her picks. At the end, she asks for suggestions from other members about songs they like. That would have been a perfect opportunity for certain people to LIST some of the music they like, instead of bashing the choices that were listed. It could have been a wonderful opportunity to open people's eyes to a different genre of music instead it turns into a negative thing.

I have a very eclectic taste in music. I listen to everything from country, rock, hip-hop and Christian music. I especially like music from the various Women of Faith artists. It is wonderful music to listen to while cleaning. - 1/19/2011   11:00:13 PM

Other than Pink none of these did anything for me. But music choices are personal. Right now my Mp3 is loaded with Shakira, Pink, 3 Doors Down, Christina Aguilera, Metallica, AC/DC, Rob Zombie, Blood on the Dance Floor, Black Eyed Peas, Cher, Brian Setzer Jace Everett, with Nickelback, Twisted Sister & KT Tunstall coming soon. I've been waiting for my library to get Rhianna in, no luck yet.

I'm going to check out some of the other selections listed in the comments.

To the people who complain & insult b/c they've never seen a Christian music for workout blog...be productive, go write one yourself if it bugs you so much instead of being so rude. Quite frankly your comments are completely the opposite of how a Christian is supposed to be. Grow up & learn your manners. - 1/19/2011   10:33:10 PM

Body Rockers and Nina Simone! I've never run into anyone else who listened to those. I like obscure offbeat things. Yaz (Don't Go Remix), Speed Caravan (Daddy Lolo), any club dance mixes especially by Depeche Mode. - 1/19/2011   10:08:39 PM

I love to hear what everyone else is listening to or motivated by! It gives me ideas on songs I have never heard or haven't thought of in a long time. A couple that always get me in the mood are "imma bee" , " let the drummer kick" by Citizen cope, and "paper planes" by M.I.A. - 1/19/2011   9:42:59 PM

I don't an Ipod or MP3 player. I still have to use my portable cd player or the house cd player. I just normally leave the radio on to Classic Rock & Roll mixed with todays tunes. I also have and love the American Idiot CD. Rock on! - 1/19/2011   9:37:18 PM

Wow...some peopel are just rude. You don't have to agree with her...these are RECOMMENDATIONS, but u definitely don't have to be rude about it. Just because u choose to not listen to music based on ur beliefs (which i can respect) doesnt give u the right to slam someone else's list. This list was here to HELP us get through our workouts...take it or leave it. If u don't like it why not put a more positive spin and add some of ur favs...honestly arent christians supposed to be positive and nonjudging? lmao. Anyways, i havent heard of many of these songs and i'll check them out...if i dont like them i wont be back to RANT, i have more important things to do...hopefully working out to some pumping new music! Thanks....and thanks everyone else who have added their favs its nice to switch it up, it can get really boring listening to the same stuff. I never even leave comments on blogs...but man that annoyed me just reading them. - 1/19/2011   9:32:53 PM

Right now my top five are MSI's Bring the Pain, 311's Creatures, Clutch's Electric Worry, The Impression that I Get by the Mighty Bosstones, and uprising by Muse, in no particular order.

I have to say I'm really embarassed and appalled, reading some of the comments left by other members on this blog entry. Yes, music is a personal preference. Which is why one user may not particularly like Christian music or classic rock, whereas others do. Coach's playlist is her personal preference, so get over it and make your own if you don't like it. - 1/19/2011   9:25:28 PM

Thanks Nicole for the suggestions! I like anything with a good beat to keep me moving. - 1/19/2011   9:24:50 PM

Iam not going to be drawn into this song thing, I am just annoyed that there was even a blog made about something that is (and should be ) so personal and subjective. I am certain that a lot of people wouldn't like my picks , seeing as not everyone likes Classic or Progressive Rock. Yes I am approaching 50 BIG DEAL. - 1/19/2011   9:08:22 PM

To those very few Sparkers who felt Coach Nicole's list was junk or trash (their words), is it really necessary or productive to leave those comments?
These are Coach Nicole's choices, she didn't say they had to be yours. They are merely suggestions.
There is no need to be so mean spirited.

Thank you for sharing! Not my cup of tea, but I was glad to try out some new ideas. To each his own is right, like a previous Sparker said. To others - let's keep it positive and Sparky here - no need to call the list junk or disparage someone else's choices, just because your own would be different.
My go-to song right now is Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. - 1/19/2011   8:30:08 PM

Musical preferences vary GREATLY - very subjective!!! I have several IPod playlists devoted to my workouts .... depends on which exercises I'm doing that day/moment. None of the ones listed here are included on any of mine. To each his own. ;) - 1/19/2011   8:26:00 PM
